A little girl with a Posy

Shameela Yoosuf Ali

Mountain ranges covered with layers of aromatic tea bushes, Skies painted with an amazing mixture of white and azure blue, the atmosphere disguised in misty veils, you are drawn into an eternal tranquility muted from all the hullabaloo of everyday life.

Illustrative beauty of Nuwereliya can not be expressed in mere words,it is but little piece of heaven indeed.

As you drive through the picturesque hairpin bends, wild blossoms , pine trees and lavish English style cottage houses greet you sideways.

Freezing breezy wind fondles with your hair noiselessly as you pass the lacy flaps of water, falling down amid the slumbering rocks.
Suddenly a small girl with a posy of flowers appears from nowhere like a dream.

The small girls and boys carrying flower posies trying to stop the vehicles are a common sight in this belt.

As this naive girl posed to my camera, with all smiles and a posy in her hands, some where down my heart I was feeling guilty. With her tender looks and innocence she seemed like any 8 year old child. But her hands were quite rough revealing the untold story of hardships, hitches and struggles.

I just pray that this smile should always remain, chaste and beautiful throughout her life.

Of course, mean time we can talk about Social change, Child Rights and Child Labour on our leisure in deluxe conference halls over a coffee.
